S1000 in Manchester

As you may have read on a previous post our SaddleSpan S1000 is on tour with the Opera di Peroni.  Last week we were in Birmingham and this week it’s Manchester. Salford to be more specific and MediaCityUK to be precise.

Here are a few picures:

This last one has nothing to do with the SaddleSpan.  That’s the Batmobile from Dark Knight Rises! But it was outside MediaCityUK at the same time.

SaddleSpans in France

Last month we got the great news that The Amazing Tent Company had been given clearence by the French authorities to install SaddleSpans in France.

Bruno Trinche and the team at Live Nation France were great in helping us become the only SaddleSpan supplier to France and we can’t wait to start working across the Channel.

We’ve even started advertising our SaddleSpans in French on Europages.fr!

SaddleSpan S1000 Opera di Peroni Tour (London)

London July 2012, Regent’s Place

You might have seen on our Facebook page that our new SaddleSpan S1000 Trispan is on tour with the Opera di Peroni; visiting London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow.

The first stage of the tour is in London.  The live event is being held between the 5th – 7th July.

We installed on Monday 2nd July in pretty windy and wet weather.  The installation itself was a challange as the structure is ballasted (no driving spikes into Regent’s Place)  and we had one day to get the tent and production set-up. Access to the site wasn’t brilliant and we needed to keep all areas open to the public as Triton Square, Regent’s Place a busy business hub.

As always, the team were up to the challange and as you can see from the photos, the S1000 Trispan looks amazing.

Introducing the SaddleSpan S1000

There’s a new addition to the Amazing Tent family!  The S1000 Trispan is the little sister of the S5000. This stunning structure is ideal for smaller event shelters, promotional covers and mini stages, with the potential to house approximately 600 people.

The SaddleSpan S1000 Trispan is made of three 90m2 units, totalling 450m2 when installed with walls. Its beautiful curvaceous design will make a statement at any event, while its advanced engineering will withstand high wind speeds, providing shelter from rain or shine.

Made from a similar canvas to our other SaddleSpans, the S1000 can look fantastic with minimal lighting, is the perfect surface to project upon and can be easily branded. It can also be installed as three single units.

If you would like more details on the structure, including pricing, please contact us or call the office on 01452 861131.

We’re off the Rails – But in a Good Way

We try to give good customer service but sometimes we amaze even ourselves.

One of our clients wanted a temporary structure that we didn’t have and as it was a structure we’ve wanted to add to The Amazing Tent Company portfolio for some time now, we had a great excuse to get it.

So we did. From Canada.

All we had to do was get the structure back to the UK in time for our client’s event.

No problem.  Put it on a train, freight it across Canada and put it on a container ship. Easy.

Unfortunately, as things turned out, it was not quite so easy.  A strike by Canadian Pacific workers left the Canadian rail network paralysed and our structure stranded!

Fortunately, we have a fantastic logistics team who, working with Tentnology, the manufacturer, were able to implement a recovery plan instantly. Their solution was simple – put the structure onto a lorry and get it to the ship by road instead of rail.  Timing was tight because the ship wasn’t going to wait for us but we made it. To give you an idea of the size of Canada, it took two guys FIVE days, driving pretty much 24 hours a day to get from Vancouver to the port in Montreal.

The structure is now in the UK, and when it has recovered from the trip, we will be introducing it to you.

Well done everyone for an excellent job in getting it over here on time. We might have been derailed but we got back on track and delivered our promise.

Our SaddleSpan is on Telly

It’s lovely to see our work on the television, even if it’s only for a second.

Kellogg’s have created a Special K TV advert that according to their press release “ditches famous model icon in red for plus sized ‘real women'”

What the press release fails to mention is that one of our SaddleSpan S2000s was used in the commercial (which was filmed in Covent Garden). Don’t blink 10 seconds into the advert or you will miss the real star of the show.

As the lady says: “Amazing”

Seven SaddleSpans Take Centre Stage

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing the Heptaspan!

This fantastic SaddleSpan construction was created for a corporate client who wanted something extra special.  The event was held in the beautiful grounds of Cardiff Castle, Jessie J was the star performer and The Amazing Tent Company created this breath-taking structure.

Made up of seven SaddleSpan S5000 modules we used a Duospan joiner to connect a Quadspan and Trispan giving 3199m2 floor area and a capacity of 5000. It took two and a half days to set up and a day to pack up and leave.

This was a massive corporate event involving a lot of contractors so communication and coordination was essential.  We put up the Quadspan first so that stages, lighting, flooring etc. could be installed whilst we were constructing and connecting the Trispan.

Building on such a historic site presented its own challenges. We couldn’t stake further than 6cms so employed 150 tonnes of ballast to firmly weight the tent to the ground.

For some reason, the original designers of the castle failed to take future corporate events in to consideration so entry to the site was restricted to a small gateway via a wooden bridge over the moat!  We loaded all of our equipment off our larger trucks onto a small flatbed and moved everything into the castle that way.

Typically of course we also had the weather to contend with. On the first day of setting up we faced the risk of sunburn and on the second day drowning was a concern.  Leading up to and during the event we recorded wind speeds of 50 mph but the SaddleSpan design and ballast supports were more than up to the task.

Such is the nature of temporary structures it was time to take it all down on Monday – the tents are packed up ready to go to their next job – but we’ve had amazing feedback from our client and guests and we think you’ll agree that this SaddleSpan configuration will be sure to take centre stage again.

(Special thanks to Planet Gold Décor for hanging some stunning silks and decorations for the event- check out the photos!)

You can also see how the guys went about putting up the Trispan on this YouTube video.

How to Stay Safe in Hot Weather

On Sunday, despite searing heat, our 10 man crew installed two SaddleSpan structures: the Duospan and the Trispan. These structures will be used for The Kent University Summer Ball 2012.

Normally it takes eight men one day just to install a Trispan, so our guys worked extremely efficiently and, most importantly, safely to achieve this two structure build in such hot conditions.

Whether you are planning or attending a festival/event it is a good idea to understand how to stay safe in hot weather, how to recognise symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and how to treat them.  You could save someone’s life!

Heat Exhaustion

If the body looses too much liquid and salts due to long exposure to a hot environment, symptoms of heat exhaustion that may start showing include:

  • Excess sweating
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Feeling light-headed/faint
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps

A person suffering from heat exhaustion should:

  • Rest in a cool or shaded place, air-conditioned if possible
  • Sip plenty of liquids – water or electrolyte replacement sports drinks
  • Take a cool shower/bath, soak feet in a bucket of water or place a wet towel on the shoulders.

Keep on doing this until the person feels better.

Heat Stroke

If a person suffering from heat exhaustion continues to be untreated and remains in a high temperature environment the potential life-threatening condition of heat stroke may develop.

The symptoms of heat stroke include:

  • Confusion
  • Hot, dry but not sweaty skin
  • Rapid and shallow breathing
  • Seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

Heat stroke is a medical emergency and the person should receive medical attention at once.

Fortunately heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be avoided by the simple means of:

  • Staying in the shade or going into the shade regularly
  • Wearing clothing that is loose fitting and light in shade and fabric
  • Drinking plenty of water or other cool drinks
  • Avoiding dehydrating drinks such as alcohol or caffeine
  • Not over exerting yourself on very hot days

Our crew stayed safe during the hot weather and did an excellent job. By following these simple measures you can have a great time at all the festivals and events being held this summer.
