Event Insurance is a Hot Topic

One of the most talked about things in our industry – and the events industry at large – at the moment is “event insurance”.  Two articles on the sector have appeared this month in the February edition of Live UK and the March edition of Stand Out Magazine showing how topical the subject is.

The discussion is of course prompted by the atrocious weather of last year which caused major problems and even cancellations but the general feeling is that even though insurance brokers will not be hiking up rates they will be expecting not only to see more contingency planning but will also be looking at competencies too – track records and experience will be a factor.

On the subject of contingency planning it is thought that details of the site, car parking and camping areas will be very important in relation to water-logging and how the site will cope with adverse conditions.

The events industry on the whole is becoming more aware of insurance cover (cancellation insurance included) and many events are now requiring vendors, hiring companies and sub-contractors to show proof of Public Liability insurance and to have their own cover.

Our own insurance company is offering policies based around Public and Employers Liability Insurance and / or Insurance cover on hired in event equipment including Marquees…[I]nsurance for these events may also include Event Cancellation Insurance Cover.

Hopefully, the weather will not be as bad as last year and many events caught out have spent considerable sums (£250,000 in the case of the Isle of Wight Festival) ensuring that problems don’t happen again but at least the industry is aware of the problems and taking steps to control them which is one good thing to arise from the situation.

Inspecting our Trusses

At the beginning of the month we told you about how we were checking all of the SaddleSpan fabric to make sure that everything was ready to go for the start of the season.

We are now in the middle of our annual safety inspection of trusses & hardware. Admittedly it’s not the most glamorous part of the business but it is obviously an essential part as safety is paramount to us.

The trusses form the frame of our SaddleSpan marquees.  Six, when bolted together, make a horseshoe and two horseshoes make a frame to which we attach the fabric.

We have 108 S5000 SaddleSpan trusses to inspect for damage and cracks as well as 24 S2000 trusses so that’s going to keep us busy for a while!

Large Marquee Hire

Here at The Amazing Tent Company, when we talk about large marquees we are talking about really large marquees!

Our clients tend to be agencies whose clients are in the corporate sector looking for a fantastic marquee for gala events or are looking for an alternative conference venue.  For these clients, what is required is a marquee that can be configured to suit their purposes, can be scaled to cater for a large number of guests, be able to have separate catering, bar and stage areas yet also be able to be sited wherever required.

Our SaddleSpan large marquees tick all of the above boxes.  As temporary structures they are designed to be erected wherever needed and they can be placed on grass or hard surfaces.  Configurations such as the S5000 TriSpan or most of these other configurations allow the venue to have distinct and separate areas and they are big, really big.

We can create marquees with over 3000m2 of clear span space (no poles blocking views or getting in the way) and we can provide structures that can hold over 6000 people or 2000+ for a gala dinner.

So if you are looking to hire a large marquee that will wow you clients please don’t hesitate to contact us.  We will be able to provide just what you are looking for.

Best Structure Company 2013

Last week we mentioned we had been shortlisted for the Best Structure Company category at the Event Production Awards and were going to the ceremony being held at the London Lancaster Hotel.

If you follow us on our Facebook or Twitter pages you will have already heard that we won! (Thank you everyone who sent such kind messages of congratulations to us).

Being named Best Structure Company is a very proud achievement for us, especially as we were up against other great companies.  All of us at The Amazing Tent Company, past and present, have worked very hard over the years to provide an excellent service with superb structures and to be recognised within our own industry for these efforts is very rewarding.

As part of the shortlisting process we submitted three case studies, all of which detailed structures we built on behalf or production companies working for corporate clients.  The case studies covered our work with Paul Williams Events (for a major insurance client) on the Cardiff Castle structure, our Bluestone, Wales project for Penguins (for a large pharmaceutical company) and our work on the Opera di Peroni Tour on behalf of The Bank for Peroni.

Every project carried its own unique challenges yet our experience and expertise ensured that each event was completed on-time, on-budget and was a great success for our clients.

Our challenge in 2013 is to continue building on the service we provide that rewarded us with the accolade Best Structure Company and it is a challenge we relish.

Concert Stage Covers

The Amazing Tent Company have been providing concert stage cover hire for festivals and events ever since the company was founded.

Both our S5000 and S2000 SaddleSpans make ideal stage covers.  The difference between the two is simply size.  Both make for a dramatic enhancement to any stage setup, both can be completely open (Canopy) or enclosed at one end (Concert – to provide shelter for equipment and artists) and both are quick to install and can withstand gusts of up to 60mph.

The S5000 SaddleSpan stage cover can accommodate stage sets of up to 16m and the S2000 SaddleSpan is ideal for stages up to 10m wide.

Contact us now to find out how we can create an amazing concert stage cover for any event.

Maintenance and The Event Production Awards

At the end of the summer, all the fabric from the SaddleSpans is cleaned and dried, before being packed away for the winter months.  But with the new season just around the corner, each bundle of fabric is taken out and checked over again – a laborious but essential maintenance procedure.

It is also the time of year for the Event Production Show and although we are not exhibiting we will be going to the show on Tuesday to have a look around and meet up with clients and friends in the Events industry.

Tuesday evening will find us both nervous and excited at the London Lancaster Hotel where the Event Production Awards are being held.  We have been shortlisted in the Best Structure Company category and although the competition is tough we have our fingers crossed so wish us luck.

We will let you know how it went next week so watch this space!
