The Christmas season is a wonderful celebratory time of year, but can bring with it lots of waste and excessive buying.
We have 5 top tips to help you create an environmentally friendly event without losing any of the fun.
1. Use beeswax candles to create atmospheric lighting
By opting for 100% natural beeswax candles, you’ll ensure no nasty chemicals are polluting the air. Plus, they have a higher melting point, which means they will burn for longer. This will also help you to keep your electricity usage down.
Candles look especially fantastic in our saddlespan tents creating warm golden tones that reflect well off the tent walls.
2. Create décor using natural materials
Instead of choosing throwaway plastic décor, why not go out and forage for your own décor? You could create impressive table displays with pinecones, twigs, and flowers. Holly and mistletoe always give a traditional Christmas look and are great to hang at your event using twine. We’d encourage you to do this inside one of our saddlespan tents to bring the outside world in.
3. Buy second-hand
Buying pre-loved décor can be just as good as new – and half the price. Whether you visit a local charity shop or use online sites like Vinted, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. These websites are especially great if there is something specific that you’re looking.
4. Provide recycling areas
If there’s going to be lots of gift giving at your event, ensure there are places your guests can recycle the wrapping paper. You could even encourage your guests to wrap using only eco-wrapping papers.
5. Create a seasonal menu
If you’re providing food at your Christmas celebration, try to make the menu as seasonal as possible. Using out-of-season produce can create a larger carbon footprint if the ingredients are being transported over long distances. Seasonal food also tends to be cheaper, fresher and more nutritious. Think creamy leeks and sweet clementines.
We hope this helps you to create a Christmas wonderland, whilst minimising waste. Let the festivities commence!
